On one of the fields, I could see flames rising in the air, and everyone was naturally drawn to it.  This is where the preparation for the firewalk was taking place by personally trained instructors of Gary Shawkey.  I remember going quite near a great big bonfire that was throwing off some serious heat.  People were asking, “Where are the marshmallows?”  Going to the fire, we passed a huge mound of unburnt firewood. It must have been ten to fifteen feet high.  For a quick moment, I thought how on earth were they going to burn all that firewood.  I convinced myself that the fire was going to burn down quite a bit more before I was supposed to walk on it.  I hadn’t a clue about firewalking or the preparation.
